This project has been a long time in the making, but has at last arrived in cyberspace. It's hard to imagine myself as a blogger (I'm much more in favor of pen and paper) and so it is likewise hard to imagine where this project will take me. The original intent? Write about the delicious meals I discover with my coworker/friend and our generous boss at our monthly dinner excursions around Nashville. Maybe post some photos. Maybe encourage a few patrons to take our recommendations for delicious meals. Let the dinner bell ring!
And so, I am blogging. About food. Another something that is hard for me to imagine. While I enjoy collecting Southern Living recipes, watching Food Network, and traipsing through Whole Foods as much as the next person, I always assumed I'd blog about artwork, traveling, or the random entertaining thoughts that pop into my head throughout the day (please follow me on Twitter if you're dying to read those thoughts!).
But there really is an art to good food. I needn't travel far to learn that (although I have had some delicious meals while traveling). I first learned to enjoy a good meal from my grandmother, who loves any excuse to enjoy a three-course meal. Any special occasion, ballet, Broadway musical, or piano recital called for one such meal. (For a woman perpetually on a diet, she does enjoy decadent meals!) And any shopping excursion is always accompanied by an afternoon cup of coffee and a cookie. It's one of my favorite things about her...
And so it's no wonder that my Southern upbringing of turnip greens, black-eyed peas, and cornbread, shrimp and grits, blueberry-stuffed French toast, fried green tomatoes, and grilled amberjack sandwiches has allowed me to appreciate the variety of elaborate and artistic fare I have encountered while dining out in Downtown Nashville. While a year's worth of monthly dinners are behind me, many more are yet to come. I can't wait to eat (and write about) what's on those menus.
Until then, buon appetito, y'all!
