In my first job in Nashville, I had a fantastic boss. She had a fantastic idea. That idea was the creation of Development Dinner, a monthly departmental meeting held over dinner instead of during some time when the 3 of us could squish it into our schedules throughout the day and outside of the office where we could think creatively and not be interrupted.
Her rules were simple:
1. My coworker and I picked the restaurant, but it had to be a Nashville-based place, not a chain or franchise.
2. We had to commit to being available once a month.
3. We had to agree to talk about work for a portion of the evening and fun for the rest of it. (After all, you know what they say about all work and no play, right?)
4. We had to order dessert!
About three or four months in, my boss had another fantastic idea. One of us should be blogging about this experience. Being the natural writer in the group, the task fell to me. And what a fun task this has been! I have learned that there is indeed an art to dining well, to savoring the aromas, the atmospheres, and the epicurean delights presented to you, whether on fine china or Chinet.
On this blog, you'll find dining experiences good and bad from local Nashville eateries, drinkeries, bakeries, and ice creameries. I also occasionally mention places I visit outside the Music City, so look for those labeled "Travel".
Feel free to share your comments, recommendations, and reservations with me. And enjoy!
Author Update, May 2013: Although I no longer have the boss or the job that inspired this blog, I do still have an appreciation for the art of dining well. Though my posts may be less frequent (as my mandatory monthly meal is no longer a part of my schedule), I still want to share my thoughts about the foods I find throughout Nashville. I encourage you to stay with me on this eating expedition. If you want to join me, please volunteer--I'm always looking for someone to share a good meal with!
